Seven-day market draws thousands in Pretoria

The market has been running for over 15 years, and is held twice a year, normally around April and September.

A very popular local market, Tierlantynkies Kuier en Koopfees, is expected to attract over 15,000 market-goers over seven days.

The market is now held at the NG Moreleta church on De Villebois-Mareuil Drive from April 25 until May 1.

One of the organisers, Lorette Kunz, said the market had been running for over 15 years and is held twice a year, normally around April and September.

Kunz said the market has become a platform for small businesses to exhibit their goods, mostly locally manufactured staff.

“We have more than 120 vendors selling a variety of items from clothes, fabulous foods, gifts, jewellery, wines, locally manufactured stuff, etc.,” said Kunz, adding, “You can have dinner and lunch at the market with your family.”

The market runs from 09:00 until 18:00, except on Sundays, when it runs from 10:30 to 16:00.

Ronell Coetzer, another organiser, added that on weekends and public holidays, there is also live music from different artists.

“We have a place of entertainment for the kids, kiddie’s rides and an area where there are childminders where you can leave your children for entertainment, while you’re doing your shopping,” said Coetzer.

She said the market has something for everyone and the venue is pet-friendly.

Coetzer closed by saying, “Our market is a very popular event in Pretoria and this is our first ever market to be held at Moreleta NG Church, after moving from our previous venue for a bigger space.”
