It’s been more than 60 days since the disappearance of Capital Live journalist Sibusiso Asere Ndlovu and his partner Precious Mdluli.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi paid a solemn visit to the Ndlovu family in Hebron, north of Pretoria, pledging government support and renewed commitment from law enforcement to uncover the couple’s whereabouts.
The emotional visit took place as public concern grows around the mysterious disappearance, with no solid lead despite widespread efforts by police, media organisations, and the private sector.
Premier Lesufi assured the grieving family that the case remains a priority for the SAPS and that a dedicated team of investigators has been assigned to crack the case.
“We will leave no stone unturned,” the Premier told the family, expressing solidarity with Mam’uNdlovu and acknowledging the deep anguish of not knowing what happened to her son and his partner.
“I know all kidnappings are sad, but this one is very stubborn and difficult. The case is still alive, and we are working on resolving the matter.”
Ndlovu, who is also a committee member of the National Press Club (NPC), was last seen on February 18, while his partner, Precious Mdluli, was officially reported missing six days later.
A missing persons case was opened, and a private investigator has been roped in while the African Media and Communicators Forum and the NPC have jointly offered a R50 000 reward in the effort to locate the couple.
Despite these efforts, police confirmed that there have been no significant developments in the investigation.
Police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk acknowledged that the case remains open, but admitted there are currently no strong leads.
Colonel Mavela Masondo, provincial police spokesperson, reiterated on March 25 that investigations are ongoing, though progress has been slow.
The Premier’s visit is a glimmer of hope for the family that have endured weeks of silence and uncertainty.
The NPC described the situation as troubling, saying, “It is for that reason that the African Media and Communicators Forum, together with the press club, have joined forces to support the families”.
Premier Lesufi called on the public to come forward with any information that might help bring the couple home.
“This family deserves answers, and we ask anyone who might know something, no matter how small, to speak up.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Brigadier Mxolisi Edwin Nama, the Provincial Head of the Serious and Violent Crime Investigations, on 082 778 9035.
