Road section closed for traffic due to collapsed water culvert

The metro’s road engineers are currently on site conducting assessments and determining the depth of the hole on Steve Biko Road.

Motorists in Pretoria are urged to stay clear of Steve Biko Road between Trevenna and Francis Baard streets in Sunnyside.

This comes after a hole was identified in the area due to a collapsed water culvert.

Ward 81 Councillor Mpho Lewele confirmed that the Tshwane Metro Police (TMPD) have closed off the affected section of the road to ensure public safety.

TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba has advised road users to avoid the blocked section and instead use alternative routes.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the affected streets and alternatively use Leyds Street, Meintjies Street or Nelson Mandela Drive,” said Mahamba.

The metro’s road engineers are currently on site conducting assessments.

The depth of the hole is yet to be determined.
