The slain body of a 17-year-old teenager was discovered on Friday (January 3) in Kekana Gardens, Hammanskraal in the far north of Pretoria, leading to the arrest of three suspects on Sunday.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) made progress in the investigation of the brutal murder of Koketso Ramahlo (17) with the suspects due in court on January 7.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said three suspects, aged 20 –22, were arrested on January 5 in connection with the murder and are expected to appear in court this week.
Nevhuhulwi said the victim had been reported missing on January 1 and was tragically found dead just two days later.
She said the victim’s body had been showing visible burn marks.
“Authorities were alerted to the body lying on the street near her home, sparking a police investigation into the shocking incident.
“While no suspects had initially been apprehended, SAPS continued their efforts to gather information and piece together the circumstances leading to the teenager’s death,” said Nevhuhulwi.
Nevhuhulwi said the break in the case came following intensive investigative work, which led to the arrest of the three suspects.
“The suspects are in police custody and are due to appear in court on a charge of murder.
“We are working to ensure that all those responsible for this horrific crime are brought to justice,” said Nevhuhulwi.
Police are also calling on the public to come forward with any additional information that could aid the investigation.
Those with knowledge of the incident are encouraged to contact the nearest police station or call the Crime Stop Line at 08600 10111.
Anonymous tips can also be submitted via the MySaps App, which is available for download on smartphones.
The murder of the teenager has sent shockwaves through the Kekana Gardens community, and police are urging residents to remain vigilant.
Nevhuhulwi reassured the community that all resources are being deployed to uncover the truth behind this senseless act of violence.
