Funeral for slain 39-year-old Tshwane police officer this weekend

The late Constable Ramaabele Sophy Mothapo will be laid to rest at Hweleshaneng Village in Ga-Mphahlele, Limpopo after she was fatally gunned down on December 24.

Tshwane Metro Police officer, who allegedly was shot by the man believed to be her partner on Christmas Eve, will be laid to rest on January 4.

TMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, said the late Constable Ramaabele Sophy Mothapo will be laid to rest at Hweleshaneng Village in Ga-Mphahlele, Limpopo at 06:00 after she was fatally gunned down on December 24.

Mothapo was killed at her place of residence in Lotus Gardens, Pretoria West.

He said the suspect fled the scene after the shooting.

“It was established that the suspect fled the scene using the victim’s vehicle and headed to Limpopo, where he was later apprehended. The exact details leading to this tragedy are unclear, and the case is currently being investigated by the SAPS,” he said.

According to Mahamba, Mothapo started her career with the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) on December 1, 2013, as a student constable, and she was appointed as a constable on December 1, 2015.

“At the time of her passing, she was reporting to the Tactical Unit, rendering her service to the department, the City of Tshwane, and the community at large.”

Mahamba said the suspect who allegedly shot Mothapo was expected to appear in court on December, 30 in Limpopo; however, the case was transferred to Pretoria where the incident occurred, and was scheduled to come before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on January 3.

He said the suspect is being held in police custody.

“The TMPD stands in solidarity during this difficult time; our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of our departed colleague as they navigate through this profound loss.”

Mahamba added that the memorial service details would be communicated in due course.
