Probe launched into TMPD officer’s conduct

A recent incident has raised concerns about the integrity within the law enforcement ranks.

A video has surfaced showing a Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) officer allegedly making remarks to a passenger to hastily withdraw money from an ATM in Montana.

The alleged traffic officer was heard telling the woman to speed up the process of when at the ATM and the woman was later seen having an undisclosed amount of cash.

The footage quickly garnered public attention, prompting an immediate response from the TMPD.

TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba confirmed the authenticity of the video and acknowledged that the individual depicted is indeed one of their officers.

Mahamba emphasised the department’s commitment to addressing the matter as it was deemed as serious.

“As soon as we became aware of the clip, we immediately assigned an investigating officer internally to obtain statements from the involved member,” said Mahamba.

Mahamba said the TMPD is taking appropriate steps to ensure accountability.

“We will decide on the next steps after we have studied the statements from both the complainant and our member.”

As the investigation unfolds, the outcome will be pivotal in restoring public trust and reinforcing the standards expected of law enforcement officers.

Further updates are expected after the TMPD completes its internal investigation.
