Two people were shot dead and three injured at a tavern in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria on Monday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the shooting occurred around 11:55.
Van Dyk said the victims were seated outside, under a tree, enjoying refreshments, when a grey Volkswagen Golf entered the premises and parked nearby.
“Three male suspects, armed with a rifle and two handguns, emerged from the vehicle and began firing indiscriminately at the group.
“The patrons attempted to flee the scene, but one was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries at the location,” said Van Dyk.
He said the suspects fled the scene in the same vehicle.

“The injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals, where one later died due to the severity of his injuries.”
Van Dyk said the police are currently investigating two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
“All leads are being investigated, though the motive remains unclear at this stage.
We urge members of the public who may have any information related to the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.”
