Police honour Tshwane officers for outstanding service

The sergeants were awarded certificates of recognition for their dedication, professionalism and exemplary work in investigating crimes that led to significant convictions.

The District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine, has awarded certificates of recognition to police officials for their dedication, professionalism and exemplary work in investigating crimes that led to significant convictions.

The ceremony was held in the presence of district management and all station and unit commanders from Tshwane District on Tuesday.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the awards served as an expression of gratitude and acknowledgement to the officers who put their heart and soul into their work.

He added that the sergeants consistently strive to protect and serve their communities.

“The honoured officers, detectives from various units in the Tshwane District, have worked tirelessly and with precision to solve complex cases, ensuring that justice was served,” said Van Dyk.

Constable Ernest Lehlogonolo Digoro, from the Temba Family, Child, and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS), was one of those who were honoured.

Van Dyk said that Digoro had led the investigation of a rape case that occurred in Rietgat.

He added that due to Digoro’s thorough work, the accused was arrested, charged, and sentenced to life imprisonment.

“Sergeant Kgadi Cathwin Ngoetjana, stationed at Kameeldrift SAPS and seconded to the Tshwane District Detective Task Team, played a crucial role in identifying and linking a suspect involved in multiple crimes,” he said.

These included two murders, one attempted murder, five house robberies, and motor vehicle theft.

He explained that the accused was sentenced to two life terms and an additional 95 years for the crimes committed in Kameeldrift.

“Sergeant Maria Morapeng Mapyane, also from the Temba FCS unit, investigated two unrelated rape cases.”

Van Dyk added that her perseverance led to life sentences in both cases, with one accused being declared unfit to possess a firearm.

“Thine commended these officers for their outstanding work, thanking them for their unwavering commitment to solving crimes and ensuring the successful prosecution of offenders.”
