Mams man accused of shooting brother, girlfriend denied bail

The accused was arrested after a devastating shooting spree that left four victims, including the man’s mother, brother, colleague, and long-term girlfriend, fighting for their lives.

A 41-year-old appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of attempted murder.

Vusi Madubanya, aka Tsiki Divovo, of White City in Mamelodi East will remain in police custody after being denied bail.

Madubanya was arrested in connection with a devastating shooting spree that left several victims injured, including his girlfriend, brother, mother and colleague.

He is being held in custody as the case has been postponed to October 29 for further investigation.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the suspect was traced to and arrested in Soshanguve last Monday.

He was found in possession of a firearm on October 6 and was linked to the crime of attempted murder in Mamelodi.

“It is alleged that the suspect and [his] girlfriend were in a quarrel when his younger brother and mother were calling him to order,” said Van Dyk.

The incident occurred at the suspect’s family home in Mamelodi.

Van Dyk said the suspect allegedly shot his girlfriend once in the left breast, then in the right side of the stomach, and his younger brother in the leg.

Police previously indicated that the girlfriend had died; however, they have since confirmed that she is in the intensive care unit (ICU).

“The two victims are admitted at Mamelodi Regional Hospital, and the girlfriend is understood to be in a stable condition in the ICU after she sustained stomach and shoulder injuries,” he said.

He said police received information from witnesses at the scene that while the suspect was assaulting his girlfriend, his family members tried to stop him, but he insisted he wanted her to pay him his money.

Van Dyk said the man then allegedly shot both his brother and girlfriend.

His father, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Rekord the family was still traumatised by the events that unfolded.

He said the incident occurred at his home and that the family was awakened by loud arguing in the yard as the quarrel ensued.
