Some major roads in Pretoria CBD are closed due to a strike by taxi drivers, which has brought traffic disruptions to the city centre.
South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) spokesperson McDonald Makata said the strike was sparked by taxis being impounded by law enforcement without notice.
Makata said taxi drivers and owners decided to block major roads in the CBD today.
“The strike began earlier today but was temporarily defused.
However, I hear now that the strike has resumed again near Tshwane House,” he said.

According to a post to the Tshwane Metro Police Department’s X account, Madiba and Lillian Ngoyi streets have been closed.

“TMPD officers and other law enforcement agencies are on the scene, monitoring the situation,” the post read.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
