SAPS vehicle repair tender case postponed to November

The accused and his 23 co-accused are facing charges of fraud, theft, and corruption tied to the SAPS contract for vehicle repairs in May to November 2017.

The Pretoria Regional Court last week postponed the case involving two of the 23 co-accused of fraud and corruption related to the SAPS vehicle repairs tender to November 26.

Businessman Kishene Chetty and his co-accused are facing charges of fraud, theft, and corruption related to the SAPS contract for vehicle repairs in the period May to November 2017.

Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the case of the duo was postponed to allow them to confirm legal aid.

Mamothame said the accused will appear in court together on December 4 to confirm legal representation and readiness for pre-trial.

Thirteen of the accused are former police officers, six SAPS administrative clerks and businesspeople. All are alleged to have colluded to benefit Paroex Auto and Mechanical Holdings PTY LTD.

Mamothame said Chetty and his co-accused appeared in court on September 30, for the legal aid attorneys to study the disclosures that were provided by the state in preparation for pre-trial conferencing.

“The applications for legal aid were confirmed for five of the accused whose legal aid applications with Legal Aid South Africa were still pending.”

Mamothame confirmed that the state received disclosures to prepare for pre-trial conferencing.

“The businesspersons involved are Kishene Chetty, Volan Prithiviraj, Kumarasen Prithiviraj and Linda Lubanyana,” said Mamothame.
