ANC to support ActionSA’s Dr Nasiphi Moya election as Executive Mayor of Tshwane

The pledge by the ANC in Tshwane to support Moya comes after the motion of no confidence against previous Tshwane mayor, Councillor Cilliers Brink.

The ANC in Tshwane has promised to pledge its support for ActionSA’s Dr Nasiphi Moya to be elected as the new Mayor for Tshwane.

This comes after the party held a media briefing at Tshwane House on Wednesday, ahead of a special council meeting to decide who would take over from the outgoing mayor, Cilliers Brink.

Brink lost a motion of no confidence late last month following three months of embattled discussion about his fitness for office.

He faced his third motion of no confidence on September 26 following two previous motions, in July and August, that were not voted on for procedural and legal reasons.

While there had been much speculation over who would take over from Brink, the ANC announced that it would support the election of Moya, who had been serving as acting mayor.

ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri said after extensive engagement “the ANC agreed to support the candidature of the current acting mayor councillor Moya. This is based off the strength of her experience and qualifications”.

Moya said she could not express the full extent of her gratitude given the support of several political parties.

“It is one thing to have confidence expressed by your party because they know you and work with you every day. However, It is an honour to have the overwhelming support of other political parties.”

The special council meeting was still under way at our time of publication and the final election process had yet to start.
