Little fighter George beats the odds with help from community

After surviving the Kameeldrift East fires, brave Jack Russell George was rescued with severe injuries while trying to save his owner, who didn't survive.

George, the brave Jack Russell who was rescued after the tragic Kameeldrift East fires, is making remarkable strides in his recovery.

After suffering severe injuries, including burns, smoke inhalation, and a broken leg, while heroically trying to save his owner, George’s future seemed uncertain.

Thanks to the overwhelming support of a caring community, George has received vital medical treatment, and his condition has improved significantly.

According to Marthina Jansen van Rensburg from Zambi, a non-profit animal rescue service, George is making eye contact with them.

“For the first time, we see a wagging tail and a smile in his eyes.
George’s previous injury to his leg still hinders his ability to run, but he joyfully hops around in the pack.”

She said although George can’t run and play, he is happy.

“Once the tick bite is sorted, Dr. Camby will take a look at his leg. For now, George is managing well on three legs, and his pain is under control.

His lungs aren’t completely clear yet, and we plan to take x-rays next Monday to monitor their progress.”

Marthina said once George’s lungs are clear, they can start planning for the repair of his leg and sterilisation.

The public is being warned about multiple scam profiles attempting to raise funds in George’s name for their own benefit.
