Police officer airlifted to hospital in critical condition after N4 crash

The officer had sustained life-threatening injuries while the other six were treated on the scene and transported to hospital.

A police officer was airlifted to hospital along with six other people who sustained moderate injuries after a horrible crash on the N4 near the Hornsnek Road Bridge on Sunday night.

Pro Med emergency service spokesperson Michael Gough said a police officer sustained life-threatening injuries.

He said at approximately 21:30 on Sunday night, they received an emergency call reporting an accident involving a police vehicle on the N4 near the bridge.

“Upon arrival, paramedics discovered two vehicles involved in the collision, one of which was a police vehicle.”

Gough said seven people were injured.

“Two police officers and five civilians were involved in the accident.”

He said the police officer who had critical injuries was airlifted by Netcare 911’s helicopter to a specialised hospital in Johannesburg.

“The other injuries were classified as moderate,” Gough said.

He added that multiple emergency services responded to the scene, providing treatment and transportation for all patients to various hospitals.

Gough said the circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation.
