CPF delivers day of excitement and education

The SAPS Kids Day event was a thrilling mix of education, entertainment, and community engagement.

The Lyttelton Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) put on a spectacular show for residents this past Saturday.

The SAPS Kids Day event was a thrilling mix of education, entertainment, and community engagement.

From helicopters to fire trucks, the event had something for everyone. Children were thrilled to get up close and personal with emergency vehicles including police cars, ambulances, and fire engines. They even had the chance to climb inside some of the vehicles and chat with the first responders.

One parent expressed their gratitude, saying: “Our kids learn about law enforcement at school, but this event gave them the opportunity to see first-hand what it’s really like to be a police officer or a firefighter. It’s a great way to demystify these professions and build trust”.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the SAPS Airwing demonstration. The helicopter’s daring manoeuvres and impressive skills left the crowd in awe, especially the young spectators.

For a more thrilling experience, the SAPS staged a realistic reenactment of a hijacking situation. Complete with “empty rounds, actors, and a gripping storyline, the demonstration was both entertaining and educational. While some found it a bit too intense, many others were captivated by the dramatic performance.

To add a touch of fun and lightheartedness, the Paw Patroller mascots were also on hand to greet the children and pose for photos.

The event concluded with a water-filled finale as the fire department allowed the children to spray and get sprayed by the fire hose. It was a refreshing and exhilarating way to end a memorable day.

The Lyttleton CPF thanked all the organisations that contributed to the success of the SAPS Kids Day, including the SAPS, Lyttelton, Bidvest, Protea Coin Chopper, SAPS Airwing, Tshwane Metro police and fire departments,
Reggie Rhino, ER24 EMS, Quatro and Domino Bull security companies, Fidelity, ADT, and the SRU (Strategic Response Rescue Unit).
