Two stolen vehicles recovered in Mamelodi

Police recovered a grey VW Polo Vivo and white Toyota Hilux at separate locations.

The Tshwane Flying Squad unit recovered two stolen vehicles in Mamelodi on Monday.

The grey VW Polo Vivo and white Toyota Hilux were discovered in different places.

Sergeant Makwati Alfred Legodi from the unit said officers received a call from the tracking company at around 17:30 over the potential tampering of a white Toyota Hilux in Mamelodi East.

He said they were given the co-ordinates and found the vehicle at Mahube Valley in Mamelodi East.

“The vehicle was badly stripped inside, and the suspects were nowhere to be found.”

He said they tried to contact the owner without success. “They took the vehicle to Pretoria West Pound, where the vehicle was booked as an inquiry,” said Legodi.

He said due to the rain, the police could not obtain any fingerprints.

Legodi said in the second incident, the unit was patrolling around Mamelodi Gardens when they saw a suspicious-looking Grey VW Polo Vivo.

The unit tried to stop and search the vehicle.

Legodi said the vehicle suddenly sped off and a police chase ensued.

“The suspects jumped out of the vehicle and started shooting at the police.”

A police chase ensued on foot, and the suspects dropped the firearm and got away.

The victim was found tied inside the vehicle, and a case of hijacking and robbery was opened at Mamelodi East SAPS.
