Police arrest suspect in Soshanguve woman murder case

Lebogang Mafa was known for her active role as a Defender of the Revolution (DOR) with the EFF Tshwane.

Akasia police have arrested a 35-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of 43-year-old Tshwane EFF member, Lebogang Mafa.

The arrest follows a brutal shooting that occurred at Soshanguve Ext 7 in the north of Pretoria on Sunday, which has left the local community in deep shock and mourning.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza, authorities responded to a distress call about a murder at the scene where community members had gathered.

Kweza said the police were approached by a man who identified himself as a relative of the deceased.

“This relative guided the officers to the residence where the lifeless body of Mafa was discovered.

“Paramedics were called to the scene and confirmed that Mafa had already passed away,” said Kweza.

Kweza said several cartridges were found.

“Despite the evidence collected, the motive behind the killing remains unclear as investigations are still ongoing.”

The suspect has been taken into custody and is expected to appear in court soon.

The police are appealing to anyone with additional information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

The arrest marks a critical step in the quest for justice for Mafa, who was known for her active role as a Defender of the Revolution (DOR) with the EFF.

EFF Tshwane’s regional chairperson Obakeng Ramabodu said Mafa’s untimely death has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for accountability from various quarters.

Ramabodu said Mafa was not just a member, but a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope for many within Ward 90.

“Her unwavering commitment to the EFF and her active role as a DOR demonstrated her dedication to creating a society where justice and equality prevail.

“The loss of such a dedicated member is a tremendous blow to the EFF and the community at large.”

Ramabodu said the tragic circumstances surrounding Mafa’s death underscore the grim reality that Soshanguve has become a hotbed of crime.

“Our communities are besieged by violence, and the sense of safety that every citizen deserves is continually eroded.

“The streets of Soshanguve, once vibrant with life and community spirit, have become synonymous with fear and insecurity.”
