In a surprising development, a man has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of 65-year-old Burckhard Neuman on a property in Groenfontein.

It is believed that the suspect also resided on the same property as Neuman.

Neuman was found last week on Sunday, lying in a pool of blood with approximately five stab wounds to the back, and his throat had been slit.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said police were notified on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at approximately 18:15 of an attack on a small holding in Groenfontein.

“Upon arrival at the scene, officers were directed by a male individual to the body of the deceased. The witness reported that the victim had left the farm on Saturday, 24 August 2024, at approximately 08:00.

“Unable to reach the deceased the following day, the witness went to the victim’s residence at around 17:30 on Sunday. Upon arrival, he discovered the deceased lying in a pool of blood and immediately contacted the SAPS.”

Van Dyk said emergency services were summoned, and upon their arrival, they declared Neuman deceased.

“The victim had sustained approximately five stab wounds to the back, and their throat had been slit.”

He added that the Crime Scene Management Officers attended the scene and processed it for evidence.

“Items reported stolen include a Toyota Hilux bakkie, a cellphone, and a laptop, with a combined value of approximately R300,000. The stolen vehicle was later recovered on Arbor Road, where it was further examined by crime scene experts and subsequently secured.”
