Police have arrested two suspects wanted for over 30 crimes in Gauteng and neighbouring provinces on Thursday.
An integrated, intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of two men in Olievenhoutbosch, believed to be involved in a crime spree spanning more than 30 serious offences, including car hijacking, armed robbery, and motor vehicle theft.
According to provincial SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the operation was spearheaded by the SAPS Highway Patrol Unit in Gauteng, in close collaboration with Crime Intelligence, Tracker Connect, and CAP Specialised Operations.
The multi-agency team had been tracking the suspects, who were reportedly committing crimes across Gauteng and neighbouring provinces using a Toyota Corolla.
“Acting on a tip-off, our team set up surveillance and soon spotted a vehicle matching the description provided, travelling along the R55 in Olievenhoutbosch,” said Masondo.
The officers swiftly intercepted the car, which had two occupants, and conducted a thorough search.
“During the search, we discovered several suspected stolen items, a car jamming device, and multiple cellphones,” he said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the car had been fitted with false registration plates and had been reported stolen.
The suspects, already wanted for a slew of crimes, including robbery with a firearm, car hijacking, theft of motor vehicles, fraud, and possession of suspected stolen property, were immediately taken into custody.
Masondo said the two are expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 2.
