Previous winner for 10 years in a row shares what makes being Best of Pretoria great

OUTsurance turns 30 in 2028.

While voting in this year’s edition of the Best of Pretoria Readers’ Choice Awards is in full swing, Rekord has decided to look back at last year’s winners. One winner in particular stands out: OUTsurance.

Voted Pretoria’s preferred insurance provider in 2023, OUTsurance has claimed this title of Best of Pretoria for 10 years in a row – since the very start of Best of Pretoria.

Founded in 1998, the globally recognised Centurion headquartered insurer and its easy-to-spot pointsmen are no rare sight for locals.

CEO Danie Matthee says the reason behind their success is their track record of covering clients through challenging times.

“Our unwavering commitment is to be there for our customers during unexpected and challenging times, ensuring their valid claims are promptly settled. We take pride in our track record, as independent verification from the Ombudsman’s statistics over the past decade attests to our industry-leading position,” says Matthee.

The CEO says being voted the best ‘home and car insurance company’ for 10 consecutive years reflected residents’ appreciation for their work and only motivated them to work harder.

OUTsurance pointsmen have played a significant role in helping control traffic flow in the Capital City which is not spared from its share of electrical challenges. Matthee says he appreciates that the programme (since its inception in 2005) has not only helped motorists navigate the roads better but has also created work opportunities for residents as well.

“So, when we drive in Pretoria, we like nothing better than to see how these heroes work their magic. We feel proud, knowing that – in some small way – we play a part in helping motorists get to and from work safely,” Matthee says.

OUTsurance remains committed to ensuring the pointsmen programme grows in years, truly demonstrating that “you always get something out” is not only a slogan but a practice that benefits those who are and are not insured with the broker.

And what makes Pretoria great?

“If we’re asked to focus on Pretoria only, we will start by saying that it’s a city rich in cultural heritage: it carries with it a sense of community and belonging, and it’s home to the friendliest people you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting. The jacaranda trees, painting the city in vibrant purple hues is certainly a favourite of ours, for obvious reasons,” Matthee says.

Getting something out does not only apply to motorists as OUTsurance staff can be part of the Staff Helping SA OUT programme that assists the communities of staff members.

Staff can be part of the programme either through a voluntary monthly contribution to Staff Helping SA OUT, by nominating a project, or by volunteering their time at specific Staff Helping SA OUT projects.

“We tend to focus on projects in and around the Centurion area and often partner with existing non-profit organisations to create an even bigger impact. Many of our projects are situated within the Tshwane region and our staff go all OUT to volunteer at projects such as the Hennops River Clean-up, building a Grade R classroom in Wolmer, and supporting the CHOC House in Centurion. Or donating food and blankets to those in need, to name only a few,” Matthee said.
