Security personnel tied up, appliances stolen at Olievenhoutbosch Clinic during break-in

It was determined that 18 computers, two electronic gadgets, one tablet, six televisions, and three Wi-Fi routers were stolen

The Tshwane metro has strongly condemned the recent burglary at Olievenhoutbosch Clinic.

Multiple appliances, including computers, were stolen.

According to Rina Marx, MMC for Health, the break-in occurred in the early hours of Thursday.

“Two security guards were overpowered and tied up in the process.”

Marx said the robbers broke the lock on the main door to gain access to the clinic.

She said that on police inspection of the facility, there were signs of forced entry to all offices, storerooms, and consulting rooms.

She added that the ceiling of the main waiting area was damaged.

“It was determined that 18 computers, two electronic gadgets, one tablet, six televisions, and three Wi-Fi routers were stolen,” she said.

She said on Thursday patients had to be redirected to nearby clinics to allow the police to conduct investigations.

She further said similar acts of thuggery occurred at the Danville Clinic in Pretoria West earlier this year, where a total of 33 computers were stolen, amounting to a loss of approximately R200 000.

“I strongly condemn these deplorable acts that target the city’s health infrastructure, which caters to the most vulnerable groups in our communities.”

She said Tshwane strives to offer the best possible services to communities at all 24 Primary Health Care Clinics.

“Incidents of theft have a negative effect on clinic operations and deny the broader community the opportunity to have uninterrupted and quality services.”

By the time of publication, the police had yet to comment.
