Suspect nabbed after high speed chase in Lyttelton

The suspect was found in possession of a large amount of narcotics and a blank firearm.

A suspected drug dealer was arrested following a high-speed chase in Lyttelton, Centurion on August 20.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said the incident occurred around 19:30 after the suspect attempted to flee from police, which then resulted in a high-speed chase.

He said undercover police units also intervened leading to the suspect’s apprehension.

“During the arrest, a substantial amount of narcotics and a blank firearm were found in the suspect”s vehicle,” said Van Dyk.

He said the suspect is currently facing charges of possession of narcotics, dealing in narcotics, and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The Lyttelton SAPS detective services are investigating possible links to other crimes in the area, including street robberies.

Station commander Brig Toohey commended the police officers who were involved in the operation.

He said the arrest demonstrated their zero-tolerance approach to drug possession and dealing.

“We will continue to intensify our efforts to keep our community safe,” said Toohey.

The suspect is currently held at the Lyttelton police station and is expected to appear in court soon.
