Some areas still without power after Njala substation trip

There was a separate trip at the Willows substation which is also being attended to.

A massive power outage hit several areas of Pretoria east this morning (August 15) resulting in non-functional traffic lights and significant traffic congestion.

However, Tshwane authorities have restored power to most of the affected areas.

Ward 44 councillor Christiaan Mauritz van den Heever said the power outage was caused by a trip at the 132kV Njala substation.

Areas such as Garsfontein, Newlands, and Waterkloof Glen were among those affected.

“Some areas are, however still without power due to a separate trip at the Willows substation,” said Van den Heever.

He said these areas include The Willows, Lynwood Ridge, Lynnwood Manor, Murrayfield and Equestria.

Van den Heever said Tshwane was currently on site attending to the trip at the Willows substation.

“Power has been restored. Our team is now busy at the Willows substation which also had a trip,” he said.

Ward 82 councillor Siobhan Muller stated that power had been restored in her ward since the outage earlier this morning.
