Garsfontein residents gear up for crucial CPF elections

The elections will take place during the first two weeks of September and allow residents to nominate and vote for people residing within their sectors.

Garsfontein residents in the east of Pretoria are encouraged to elect their new Community Police Forum (CPF) representatives to serve their community this year.

The CPF will have six vacant positions, including that of chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, and public relations officer, which must be filled before end of September.

The current CPF, together with the South African Police Service, Tshwane Metro Police Department and security companies, have made notable strides in reducing crime in Garsfontein.

Statistics from the 2022/2023 financial year revealed a 23.5% decrease in residential burglaries, a 23.3% decrease in theft out of and from motor vehicles, and a 20.2% reduction in vehicle theft.

The first nine months of the 2023/2024 financial year have shown mixed results, with residential burglaries down by 12.4% and theft from vehicles decreasing by 1.7%, while vehicle theft unfortunately rose by 14%.

To keep crime at bay, the CPF will host elections for new heads to steer it during the first two weeks of September and the new members will function alongside police to enhance safety in their community.
