Alleged cash-in-transit robbers to appear in court

The suspects face charges relating to transit robbery, possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition, and possession of hijacked motor vehicles.

Three suspected cash-in-transit robbers were arrested on Tuesday, July 24, and are set to appear in the Pretoria North and Temba Magistrates Courts on Monday, July 29.

According to Colonel Katlego Mogale the spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) the suspects are facing charges relating to transit robbery, possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition, and possession of hijacked motor vehicles.

Mogale said the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-driven multi-disciplinary operation by the members of the Tactical Operations Management Section in collaboration with Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Klipgat, and Pretoria North Local Criminal Records Centre.

The suspects, aged 69, 39, and 37 were arrested at several locations around Makapanstad.

Mogale said the team also recovered a rifle with its serial number filed off, and two vehicles – a white Peugeot and a silver Audi A4 – which are thought to have been used in criminal activities.

“The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain its involvement in other crimes in the Pretoria area,” said Mogale.

He said the suspects have been identified as being sought for cases in Akasia and Makapanstad.

He closed by saying, “The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation is not ruling out the possibility of more suspects being arrested. Investigation is continuing.”
