Organisations band together to feed Mams residents this winter

They are calling residents to extend a helping hand by donating blankets, clothes and other essentials.

Two organisations came together to serve warm soup and bread to provide comfort during the cold weather conditions in Mamelodi on Monday morning.

People queued on the corner of Msamanga and Mbuyane streets in Section A3, Mamelodi West.

The soup kitchen project has been running throughout the winter with the help of the Dlalisa Moyeni Foundation and #Notinmyname International.

Spokesperson Themba Masango from #Notinmyname said both organisations felt it was “vital to remember those who are in a less fortunate position than us.

“The organisations have taken the initiative to provide temporary but much-needed comfort to the residents of Mamelodi in the form of a soup kitchen,” said Masango.

“Charity begins at home.

“We felt we needed to bring our partners on board to provide a soup kitchen to the neighbourhood where we grew up,” said Masango.

He said this was an act of love and compassion.

“This is a continuation of our brother’s keeper ethos,” he said.

“We would love to further extend a helping hand through the provision of blankets, so we encourage other forward-thinking South Africans to donate and/or bring blankets, clothes, and other such essentials for survival.”
