Sunny weekend for Pretoria despite widespread snow predicted

A sunny weekend is expected in Pretoria despite the widespread snow that is predicted in several areas of South Africa.

The weather service said a sunny weekend is expected in Pretoria despite widespread snow predicted for several areas in South Africa.

According to VoxWeather forecaster Michelle Cordier, the Pretoria residents will enjoy a sunny weekend.

“Saturday is still comfortable (Pretoria 23°C, Johannesburg 22°C). Sunday will be a bit cooler due to a strong cold front moving over the Cape Provinces on Saturday (Pretoria 21°C, Johannesburg 19°C) and then another 1 or 2 degrees cooler on Monday (Pretoria 19°C, Johannesburg 18°C), with a freezing cold Monday morning behind that cold front (Johannesburg could see temperatures around 0°C and Pretoria around 2°C).

“However, it will be a bit warmer again on Tuesday (back above 20°C).”

The SA Weather Services (SAWS) has issued several weather warnings for parts of the country.

“An intense cold front is expected to make landfall over the south-western parts of the Western Cape on Saturday morning, 27 July 2024, bringing rain and showers across the province during the day.

“The front is expected to bring adverse weather conditions over most of the Western Cape over the weekend, extending into Monday, 29 July.

“Cold, wet, and windy conditions are likely, including rough and choppy seas associated with high-energy waves.”

The SAWS said there is also a possibility of snowfall over the western and south-western mountains of the Western Cape and the southern high ground of Namakwa (Northern Cape).

Here are the weather warnings in place for the coming weekend:

“The South African Weather Service will therefore continue to monitor any further developments relating to this weather system and will issue subsequent updates as required.”
