Police said an elderly man was killed and his wife severely beaten in a farm attack in Cullinan this weekend.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk the brutal attack happened on Saturday.

“The South African Police Service in Cullinan reacted after they were informed of a farm attack in their Policing area on Saturday.”

Police found the 81-year-old elderly man, Dirk Kritzinger (81) with severe head injuries and lying in a pool of blood.

His wife, Sarie was severely injured and was receiving medical attention.

Van Dyk said a witness stated that he quickly drove to the man’s residence after he received a call from the deceased’s daughter notifying him that her parents were not answering their phones.

She suspected something might have occurred because it was unusual for them not to answer the phones.

“On his arrival he found the severely injured woman and the deceased in the house.”

He said it is unknown what the motive for the attack and if any property was stolen.

“A case of murder and house robbery has been opened for investigation and all leads are being investigated.”

The South-African Police Service is appealing to the community to come forward with any information and to contact Cullinan SAPS to bring the culprits to justice.
