A total of 25kg of dagga this weekend following a high-speed chase on the R566 in Akasia.

According to a police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, members of the Tshwane District Stabilization Team were on duty performing crime prevention patrols on the R566 road in Akasia when they spotted a suspicious white VW Polo.

“The police attempted to stop and search the vehicle. However, the vehicle did not stop, resulting in a high-speed chase.

“The chase concluded in the Mmakau area, where the suspect vehicle’s driver lost control and hit a wall.”

Van Dyk said the driver was apprehended, and upon searching the vehicle, 25 kg of dagga with a street value of approximately R20,000 was found.

“The suspect was arrested for possession and dealing in dagga and detained.”

He said task team members patrolling the Soshanguve area received information from the community about a suspect involved in a house robbery and kidnapping case reported in Rietgat.

“The suspect was reported to be driving a blue VW Golf. The team tracked and traced the vehicle, which was then located and stopped. The vehicle was tactically surrounded, and the driver was apprehended.”

The man was positively identified as the suspect and arrested.

“While interviewing the suspect, another individual was identified as an accomplice in the case.

“This second suspect was traced to his location, found at his house, and arrested. Upon searching the suspect, two ziplock bags containing drugs were found in his possession. The suspect was arrested and detained.”

Furthermore, while patrolling the Mabopane area, members found a white Toyota Land Cruiser abandoned on the road.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Garsfontein in July 2024.

Van Dyk said the vehicle was seized, and investigations will be conducted to trace and return it to its rightful owner.
