Council to use sport to bring Mams community together

Masco aims to create opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities to participate in a wide range of sports and to promote healthy lifestyles.

A sports council aimed at promoting sports participation in various sports, from grassroots to competitive levels, was officially launched under Tshwane Region 6 on Tuesday.

The Mamelodi Sports Council (Masco) consists of executive members who come from different sporting codes.

Chairperson Solly Masemola said the purpose of the council is to promote sports and community engagement in Mamelodi.

“The council is dedicated to fostering a vibrant sports culture, nurturing local talent, and enhancing the overall well-being of our community through diverse sporting activities and programmes.”

Masco has partnered with schools and clubs.

“We are collaborating with educational institutions and local sports clubs to provide resources and support for sports development,” said Masemola.

“Masco is a non-profit organisation committed to creating opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities to participate in a wide range of sports.”

He said the council’s goal is to provide a platform for athletes to develop their skills, promote healthy lifestyles, and strengthen community bonds through sports.

Masemola added that the council is also developing local talent by identifying and nurturing athletic talent within the community, providing pathways for personal and professional growth.

The sports council will also foster community engagement by using sports as a tool to bring people together, promoting unity, inclusion, and community spirit.

Masemola further said the council advocates healthy living through active lifestyles and provides resources to support physical and mental well-being.

It offers a range of programmes and initiatives, including youth development programmes such as coaching clinics, sports camps and competitions designed to develop young athletes’ skills and sportsmanship.

Masco also hosts and organises local tournaments, leagues, and fun runs to engage the broader community in sports activities.

The sports council will also host health and wellness workshops and seminars on nutrition, fitness, and mental health to promote overall well-being.

Masco invites the public, local clubs, sports associations, local businesses, and all stakeholders to join in their mission.

“Together, we can create a thriving sports culture that benefits everyone in our community,” Masemola concluded.
