Counterfeit medicine worth R30 000 was seized in Waverley this week.

Police said a search and seizure warrant was executed at premises in Waverley, Pretoria, resulting in the confiscation of counterfeit medicine worth R30 000.

This was done in a joint operation between the Gauteng Commercial Crime Investigation Unit and the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA).

“The operation, which took place on Wednesday, 17 July 2024, targeted the distribution of counterfeit and contraband goods and resulted in the seizure of 61 items of Schedule 2, 4, 5, and 6 medicines, which are only dispensable by pharmacies.”

Police said one person was arrested during the operation and will appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.

These counterfeit medicine included various types of painkillers and sleeping tablets.

Meanwhile, in other news, two suspects were arrested at informal settlement in Bronkhorstspruit.

These arrests were part of an operation on Thursday, July 18 and police arrested 351 suspects for different crimes in Bronkhorstspruit and Ekangala.

The operation was conducted in the early hours of the morning with various agencies, including Home Affairs, the labour department, the Gauteng traffic department, metro police, and CPFs from respective stations.
