Central man arrested for shooting at girlfriend

A 9mm pistol was booked in by police as an exhibit with a magazine loaded with 15 rounds of live ammunition.

Central police and partnering organisations have arrested a man for allegedly assaulting and shooting at his girlfriend during a domestic dispute.

The man appeared at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on July 15 and remains in police detention.

The arrest came on July 12 in the CBD as part of weekend operations when police responded to a call at around 20:00.

Police spokesperson Constable Thabang Nkhumise said, “According to the statement given, the alleged girlfriend found the suspect with another lady identified as his wife when she came to visit him.

“The confrontation escalated to a physical altercation and the victim was hit with a beer bottle, which cut her chin and led to extreme bleeding. The suspect then shot at the victim with a pistol and managed to graze her lower thigh. An ambulance was called onto the scene and the victim was sent to the hospital for observation,” she said.

A 9mm pistol was booked in by police as an exhibit with a magazine loaded with 15 rounds of live ammunition.

Acting station commander Colonel Lucky Morodi condemns such acts of violence and pleads with the community not to resort to violence to solve domestic disputes as it is likely to lead to incarceration.

Central police and its partners also arrested 20 suspects for offences including shoplifting, drug dealing and driving while intoxicated, among others.

The suspects were aged between 21 and 51 while the supporting organisations in the effort included the TMPD, crime prevention wardens, patrollers, CPF and SAPS reservists.

Two suspects were arrested for shoplifting, one for assault with previous bodily harm, three for possession of drugs and 13 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

All the suspects have appeared at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court and further investigations will be conducted.
