West high-speed chase ends in four arrests

Suspects were found with car-breaking equipment.

Lyttelton police and Monitor Net security arrested four suspects for possession of car-breaking equipment in Pretoria West on Friday, July 12.

Spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said police received information about a silver Nissan Qashqai used in a car hijacking.

He said following the tip-off, a multi-disciplinary operation was launched with officers deployed in Pretoria West.

“The team monitored a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle,” said Van Dyk.

“The suspect’s vehicle with four occupants was spotted driving in the Pretoria West area towards Danville.”

Van Dyk said the suspects fled from the officers and a high-speed chase ensued.

He added that measures to immobilise the vehicle were taken and the car was stopped in the Danville residential area.

“Four suspects were arrested by Lyttelton police,” he said.

Van Dyk said the suspects were arrested for possession of car-breaking equipment.

No stolen vehicle was recovered.

“The vehicle was taken to the designated vehicle crime investigation unit for safeguarding and further investigations,” conluded Van Dyk.
