One dead, two injured in multi-vehicle accident on Solomon Mahlangu Drive

The volunteer emergency medical response unit found that the three motor vehicles collided at high speed.

One person died and two sustained minor injuries in a motor vehicle accident on Solomon Mahlangu Drive on Sunday, July 7.

Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit (Vermu) spokesperson Casper Visser said they responded to a call after 17:00 about a serious motor vehicle accident on Solomon Mahlangu Drive in the east of Pretoria.

Visser said the response team said three motor vehicles had collided at a high speed.

“One elderly woman, who showed no signs of life, was extracted and declared dead on the scene,” he said.

He said two men sustained minor injuries.

He added that SAPS were at the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.

He said in an accident the day before, a pedestrian was died of their critically injuries on Solomon Mahlangu Drive.

Visser said the accident happened around 13:00 on Saturday.

“Upon arrival, we found bystanders busy performing CPR on a woman who had been struck by a vehicle,” he said.

He said the team and private ambulance services attempted to revive the patient using advanced life support interventions.

“Unfortunately, the patient succumbed to her injuries and was declared dead on the scene,” he said.
