Tshwane appoints new divisional chief of fire and rescue

Mabaso brings a wealth of experience with 23 years served in emergency services.

The Tshwane metro announced the appointment of Thabo Charles Mabaso as the new Divisional Chief for Fire and Rescue Operations.

The Tshwane MMC for Community Safety, Grandi Theunissen said his appointment reflects Tshwane’s ongoing commitment to leadership and excellence in emergency response.

He said Mabaso brings a wealth of experience to his new role having started his career as a volunteer at the Emergency Services Department 23 years ago.

“He has played a key role in various high-profile emergency response operations and has demonstrated his dedication to public safety, operational excellence, and community engagement,” said Theunissen.

He said as a divisional chief, Mabaso will be accountable for co-ordinating and leading every dimension of fire and rescue operations.

Theunissen added that Mabaso will be focusing on innovation, efficiency, and community resilience.

He further added that his leadership will ensure that firefighters are well-equipped to attend to any emergency.

“This appointment comes at a critical time as we continue to build on the progress made under the leadership of Chief Mosia, our Head of the Emergency Services Department,” he said.

He said that adding Mabaso to the management team will further enhance Tshwane’s capacity to deliver exceptional service to the community.

“On behalf of the coalition government in Tshwane, I extend my congratulations to Mabaso and look forward to his contributions to the EMS Department,” said Theunissen.

“I also thank him for his dedication and professionalism in his previous role as Deputy Chief: Public Information and Liaison Officer.”
