Tip-off leads to arrest of suspected drug dealers in Brooklyn

Police followed up on information received from the public about men selling drugs next to some street vendors close to Brooklyn Mall.

Two suspects believed to be in their 30s were arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs in Brooklyn in the east of Pretoria.

This follows law enforcers in the joint operation saying they had received information through a video.

According to police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Duane Lightfoot, police in collaboration with private security companies acted on a tip-off, which led to arrests.

“Information was followed up that was received from the public about men selling drugs next to some street vendors close to Brooklyn Mall,” said Lightfoot.

He said the police and private security company initiated a joint operation.

“The two men were arrested for dealing in drugs and the dagga was seized.”

He said the value of the drugs could not yet be established.

“Police will stop at nothing to ensure that drugs are removed from the communities and apprehend those found on the wrong side of the law,” Lightfoot said.

Dana Bloem, CEO of private security company Complete Security Intelligence (CSI), said members of the public sent a video of a suspect dealing in drugs near Brooklyn Mall.

Bloem said Brooklyn police requested assistance and an operation plan was put in place.

“Members of the joint operation searched the area and detained the suspects.”

Bloem said packets of suspected drugs were found near the suspect and confiscated.

He said the police arrested the suspects and booked the suspected drugs for further investigation.
