Cable thief caught redhanded at Waterkloof park

Further investigation revealed the suspect was previously arrested for cable theft.

A suspect in a cable theft attempt was caught in the act by a commuter and was apprehended by a CSI security officer within the Aries Doggy Park in Waterkloof Ridge on June 29.

According to CSI spokesperson Mark Grobbelaar, a report from the community alerted security officer to suspicious activity involving a cable theft attack.

“Upon arrival at the scene, an individual was observed in the act of cutting cables and upon noticing the security officer’s presence, the suspect attempted to flee but was pursued and apprehended within the park premises.”

He said a subsequent search of the suspect yielded knives, additional copper cables, and tools commonly used for housebreaking.

“The security officer promptly notified the control centre and requested police assistance. SAPS officers arrived approximately 15 minutes later, and the suspect was taken into custody.”

Grobbelaar said further investigation at the station revealed that the suspect had prior arrests related to cable theft.

“A detailed statement was provided by the security officer to law enforcement, and the suspect was handed over to SAPS custody for further legal proceedings.”

He urged the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.
