Over 400 arrested for different crimes across Pretoria

Tshwane Police co-operated with various agencies and community groups in the arrest of these suspects over the weekend.

Police arrested 464 suspects over the weekend for different crimes during patrols in crime-prone areas of Tshwane.

Spokesperson Johan Van Dyk said these operations involved teamwork with departments like Home Affairs, Labour, Gauteng Traffic and local law enforcement, including the Tshwane Metro Police and community policing forums.

“These operations were led by Brigadier Samuel Thine, with cooperation alongside various agencies and community groups and officers from different SAPS stations also played crucial roles.

By the end of the weekend, 199 individuals were arrested for offences like assault, housebreaking, public drinking, driving under the influence, and armed robbery with normal police actions at police stations across Tshwane.”

He said in the Mabopane and Loate, Operation Shanela was highly successful as 223 suspects were nabbed, including one for attempted murder, one for armed robbery and two for possession of unlicensed firearms.

“Three tactical groups of officers were deployed to patrol the areas, leading to the inspection of 20 liquor premises and the closing of 11 and confiscation of 177 680 ml of illicit liquor for noncompliance with liquor regulations.

Additionally, 37 undocumented immigrants were detained for deportation, nine people being arrested and fined for drinking in public, two were arrested for gender-based violence related cases, one arrested for contravention of a protection order.”

Van Dyk said 630 individuals, 280 vehicles and five premises were searched, resulting in the arrests of 12 people for drunk driving and two suspects for drug possession and dealing when 99 zip lock bags containing various drugs and money were found in their possession.

“Furthermore, 69 traffic violation notices were issued, amounting to R49 450 in fines.
