Mams learners kept busy with school holiday programme

The children are fed and kept occupied the whole day with games, board games, swimming, and playing.

Mamelodi children will be kept busy with sport, art, singing and fun activities for the next three weeks.

They will be under the watchful eye of the organisers of Thandanani Drop Inn Centre’s winter school programme, which runs from June 14 to July 8.

Kate Kekana of the centre said the three-week programme of activities is aimed at removing children from the streets and danger during the school holiday.

She said the programme caters to learners under the age of five who are kept busy with fun activities.

Kekana added that they have lined up several activities to keep them busy every day from 10:00 to 15:00.

“The centre has teamed up with local stakeholders for the ongoing school holiday programme and keeps children busy with indigenous games, aerobics, board games, dressing like an employee, fashion shows, drama, art, and craft.

The programme aims at looking after the children and feeding them for free while their parents are still at work.”

Parents are also expected to sign consent forms and registration forms in the morning and when they fetch them in the afternoon.

Children will be fed and kept busy the whole day with lots of activities like board games, swimming, and playing.

Kekana said parents need to register their children in the morning and the centre will take care of the children the whole day while their parents are at work.

“The centre will give the children breakfast and also make sure they have a freshly cooked meal before going back to their loved ones.”

The centre has a regular afternoon school programme, but the numbers have increased with parents bringing their children during the school holiday.

To ensure the children’s safety at all times, the Mamelodi East CPF will be on board to monitor the situation.

There will also be trips for children to visit heritage sites, museums and the botanical gardens.
