Man arrested for possession of explosives in CBD

The suspect is facing charges of contravention of the Explosives Act 26 of 1956 and will appear in court soon.

Pretoria Central police and traffic wardens apprehended a suspect for possession of explosives, detonators and detonator cords in the CBD on Wednesday, June 12.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said police received a tip-off from locals about a person suspected to be carrying explosives.

He said police mobilised and tracked down the suspect.

“After the person was found, the search revealed explosives, detonators and detonator cords in their possession,” said Van Dyk.

He added that the police explosives unit was called in to ensure the safe handling and transportation of the recovered explosives.

Van Dyk said the suspect is facing a charge for contravening the Explosives Act 26 of 1956 but the investigation is still ongoing.
He said the suspect will appear in court soon.
