Pretoria CBD senior cop decorated with master’s in criminology

Mashaba’ dissertation is titled “A Criminological Exploration of the fear of crime among domestic workers in Tshwane, Gauteng”.

A station commander serving the Pretoria Central police station was recently awarded his master’s in criminology by Unisa.

The 85th graduation ceremony for the academic year at the university took place on June 5 and Brigadier Hlengani Gibin Mashaba was one of the graduates honoured during the occasion.

The vice-chancellor of Unisa, Prof Solomon Magano officiated the ceremony and commended Mashaba for his achievement after ordaining him with his master’s degree.

The dissertation Mashaba had done was titled A Criminological Exploration of the fear of crime among domestic workers in Tshwane, Gauteng.

The achievement only adds to Mashaba’s lengthy record of accolades which include a National Diploma in Police Administration he received in 1996 from former Technikon SA. He also received a second National Higher Diploma in Policing in 1999, a third qualification a Bachelor of Arts in 2017 and a Bachelor of Arts Honours as his fourth qualification.

“All glory to God for carrying me through. I would also like to thank Gauteng provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni for allowing me to conduct my research at the Brooklyn police station.

He also thanked the community for all of their support as well

Mashaba was joined by members of his family as well as his fellow men and women in blue.

He further stated that he believes that this achievement will be a stepping stone to greater highs and also believes that is a tool to encourage police officers to study further and take the organisation in the right direction.

“I hope my fellow members will pursue further studies to better themselves as education is the key that can open many doors,” Mashaba concluded.
