Hijackers nabbed in north after attempting to flee

Police recovered the firearm lying next to the suspect who was shot by a guard.

Two male suspects accused of armed robbery and hijacking were recently arrested in Mabopane Square with one of them being shot while trying to escape authorities.

On June 3, at around 11:00, police on patrol at the square responded to a gunshot that they heard near Nak Cash Loans.

On arrival, they noticed a man leaving the scene and running out of the complex.

The police ran after the unknown man and followed him on foot as he entered the Cash Build yard where he was then apprehended.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said, “The suspects are linked with an attempted robbery with a firearm. His accomplice was shot next to Nak Cash Loans by a guard.

“According to the complainant who works for Courier Guy, he alleges that the two tried to rob him of the parcels he meant to deliver at Mabopane Square,” said Van Dyk.

Police recovered the firearm the suspects used as it was found lying next to the injured suspect.

The injured suspect was transported to a nearby hospital under police guard and will be charged with attempted hijacking attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
