11 injured after store fire in Centurion

Tshwane emergency services say upon searching the building, firefighters found five more injured people inside the building.

A cash and carry store in Centurion was engulfed in flames on Tuesday afternoon, June 4, resulting in 11 victims sustaining minor to moderate injuries.

Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said his team responded to a store fire in Centurion, where they found six injured people.

He said upon searching the building, firefighters found five more injured people inside the building.

“Eleven patients were treated and transported to Kalafong Hospital by private ambulances,” said Mabaso.

“Two victims sustained minor injuries while nine other victims sustained moderate injuries,” he added.

He said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

In a separate incident earlier, Tshwane Emergency Services also responded to the scene where one male pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle early on Tuesday morning.

According to Mabaso, the incident occurred on the R21 highway, towards the south near Irene offramp.

He said his team was called to the scene at 06:25, where they found a male who had been knocked down by a vehicle.

“The pedestrian was declared dead on the scene by Gauteng paramedics,” he said.

The road has since been cleared.
