Tshwane warns attorneys of imposter

The scammer poses as a Tshwane metro official and asks the law firms that have bid to join the panel of attorneys for Tshwane for money as part of a scam.

The Tshwane metro has warned legal firms that bid to be listed in the Tshwane panel of attorneys to be wary of scammers.

The bidding process for the tender was opened on April 4, 2024 and closed on May 13.

Spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said a scammer had been impersonating an official within the Tshwane metro municipality, targeting bidders with fraudulent intent.

He said the scammer posed as a legal officer and had made contact with bidders claiming that certain documents were missing from their bid documents.

“The scammer carries on by soliciting money to assist them in submitting the outstanding bid documents even beyond the closing date,” said Mashigo.

Mashigo urged bidders to ignore such calls.

“Bidders are requested to ignore such calls as this is a scam and most importantly the tender is closed,” Mashigo said.

Mashigo also urged the public and legal practitioners to be cautious when dealing with such scammers.

“Tshwane views this scam as a criminal offence and assures that those responsible will be arrested, charged, and prosecuted,” said Mashigo.

He said anyone with information regarding the scammers could contact the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department on 012 358 7095/6.

“The Tshwane metro remains committed to maintaining the integrity of its processes and ensuring that such fraudulent activities are not tolerated,” he said.
