Karate club students but Mamelodi on the map

The boys from the club are now working tirelessly to prepare for the SA Karate tournament set to take place in Kibler Park, Johannesburg on June 28–29.

Ten students from Kyokushinkai Kan Karate club in Mamelodi recently participated in the IFK Karate tournament at the Deutsche Internationale Schule in Pretoria.

Seven of them won trophies as well as three medals for participating in the event.

Sensei Godfrey Tabane, the students’ guide, said the boys made the club proud by performing well throughout the tournament.

“The boys took everything that I taught them and used it at the tournament.

“Your hard work, pride, and determination have finally paid off,” said Tabane.

“You have put Mamelodi Karate Club on the map.”

The boys are now working tirelessly to prepare for the SA Karate tournament set to take place in Kibler Park, Johannesburg on June 28–29.

He said the boys know this is a very important tournament that could change their lives. Performing well at the Johannesburg event will qualify them for the international karate tournament in November in Japan.

“The importance of training karate is discipline, self-defence and helping children against bullying at school.”

Tabane added that parents should allow their children to take part in different sports activities, and that karate as a sport teaches young children about discipline.

“We don’t encourage violence, but this helps with self-defence.

“Taking part in sport helps children to focus on their schooling away from the street and far from intoxicating substances,” he added.

Parents also need to support their children by attending tournaments, which allow them to unite with other parents.

The karate club operates at Mamelodi Beer Hall from Monday to Thursday from 17:00 to 18:30.
