Metro bashes talk of contaminated Tshwane tap water

The metro has dismissed a message circulating on social media warning residents that local tap water causes typhoid fever.

The metro has denounced a message circulating on social media platforms that claims that tap water in Tshwane is unsafe for drinking.

According to the post that is doing the rounds on TikTok, typhoid fever is confirmed in Johannesburg and Pretoria.

The post further states that residents must not drink water from the taps until they have boiled it first.

However metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo has said the message is false and urged residents not to spread misinformation.

“The said circulated warning further states that the water is contaminated and causes typhoid fever,” said Mashigo claiming this was false.

He said the message lists the symptoms of typhoid as well as precautionary measures.

Mashigo advised the public to disregard this message, as it has not been issued by the metro and is therefore false.

He urged residents to only trust information from official sources and be on the lookout for fake news.

“We urge the public to always be vigilant of bogus messages,” said Mashigo.
