541 suspects arrested during operations in Tshwane

Throughout the operation, a total of 903 people and 674 vehicles were inspected, with 73 vehicles checked for stolen status.

Police bust 541 suspects in Tshwane during several crime prevention operations.

The operations involved high-visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections, and raids on illicit liquor outlets.

Police officers arrested 261 individuals for offenses ranging from assault and housebreaking, public drinking, driving under the influence of alcohol, and armed robbery, through routine operations and standard police actions.

District police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan Van Dyk said during operation Shanela, conducted in the Mamelodi East and West policing areas, Tshwane Detective teams successfully apprehended 255 suspects.

“99 suspects were arrested for gender-based violence related crime, one for attempted murder, four for armed robbery, and six for rape.”

Van Dyk said three uniformed groups, comprising two tactical teams and one roadblock group, were deployed to police the Mamelodi East and West areas.

“Although the elements made it difficult with heavy downpours, the tactical teams continued their unwavering commitment and inspected nine liquor premises, identifying six as non-compliant with liquor regulations.”

He said a total of 1,148 850 ml of liquor was confiscated and will be destroyed pending the finalization of criminal cases.

Additionally, four undocumented immigrants were detained for deportation pending the conclusion of legal processes, five suspects were arrested for public drinking, two suspects for illegal gambling with one person was arrested for public indecency.

“One suspect was arrested and charged when he interfered when police duties. One laptop was found abandoned and handed in for safekeeping.”

Throughout the operation, a total of 903 people and 674 vehicles were inspected, with 73 vehicles checked for stolen status.

Twelve suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Seven premises were searched during this operation.

Twenty-three Aarto infringement notices were issued, totaling R10 000.
