Heatwave to persist until Tuesday in Gauteng

Temperatures in Tshwane are expected to hit a staggering high of 35°C.

Gauteng will experience once again scorching temperatures as the current heatwave will last until next week.

On Saturday, the SA Weather Service (Saws) warned that the current heatwave will last at least until Tuesday, March 12.

“Heatwave conditions with persistently high temperatures are expected over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, North West, Free State, Gauteng, as well as the south-western Bushveld of Limpopo until Tuesday.”

Saws predicts temperatures in Tshwane will reach a high of 35°C on Monday, dipping to a low of 18°C with showers and thundershowers.

Tuesday will once again see temperatures rise to 35°C with a low of 20°C with clear skies.

In Pretoria today, temperatures are expected to reach a high of 34°C and dip to a low of 19 °C.

Residents are advised to remain cautious of the increased risk of veld fires during this period.

Precautionary measures to follow during a heatwave:
– Stay hydrated by drinking copious amounts of water
– Limit outdoor activities (especially during the hottest time of the day)
– Wear loose clothing but avoid dark clothing where possible
– Remain in the shade where possible
– Keep an eye on vulnerable individuals
– Ensure children and animals are not left in a parked vehicle
– Avoid strenuous physical activity if possible. If you must do strenuous activity, do it during the coolest part of the day, usually in the morning between 04:00 and 07:00.
