Eersterust family still desperately searching for missing relative

The man was reportedly last seen on his way to the bank in Silverton three weeks ago and has not returned home.

A family in Eersterust are still searching for their uncle who went missing three weeks ago.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk said Frank Colbyn de Ruiter (69) was last seen on his way to the bank in Silverton on February 14 and has not returned home.

“It is alleged that De Ruiter was seen by an eyewitness in Moreleta Park wearing blue overalls, a jacket, and black pants and was barefoot on February 27,” said Van Dyk.

He said De Ruiter has a history of memory loss (dementia) however his niece Rozell said this was the first time her uncle had gone missing.

She said he had visited the Silverton bank many times and always returned home “but not this time”.

“My uncle has only one friend, otherwise stayed home. He did not have enemies.

We have searched almost everywhere for him, following leads but we feel like the police are not doing their job because we are doing it for them,” said Rozell.

“We have pleaded with the police to at least follow the leads we have uncovered but they don’t.

We are concerned for his safety.”

Police have asked anyone with information about De Ruiter’s whereabouts to contact his family on 065 860 3815 or 082 531 9932 or Warrant Officer Hartel of Eersterust police on 061 135 1528, #CrimeStop on 08600 10111 or MySAPS App.
