SADAG launches online support group for bereaved pet owners

The group will offer support from Monday to Sunday and starts on March 1.

Animal lovers who have ever or recently lost a beloved pet have a chance to connect with others that share the same experience.

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) is launching a support group for those who are dealing with the loss of a pet on March 1.

Members will have the opportunity to join discussions, share memories of their pets, and receive support from others going through a similar experience.

Support group leader Dr Kendall said: “Losing a pet can be an incredibly difficult and emotional experience, and this community will offer comfort and support to those who are grieving.

“I realised that there is really not much support out there specifically designed for pet parents. This group will operate purely from a WhatsApp group, so those pet parents who need support can still have a safe space consisting of people who understand their grief.”

The group will be available seven days a week, from 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Sunday.

People who need immediate support or simply want to connect with others who understand their grief are welcome.

To join the group, interested individuals can reach out to Dr Kendall on 082 662 6659.

Participation is free, and all are welcome regardless of where they are located or the circumstances surrounding their pet’s passing.
